Ingredients
- 500g grams 500g good-quality beef mince
- 1 small onion 1 small onion, diced
- 1 egg 1 egg
- Vegetable oil
- 4 burger buns Burger buns
- Sliced tomato, beetroot, horseradish sauce, mayonnaise, ketchup, handful of iceberg lettuce, rocket, watercress (optional)
Method
- Heat a barbecue to medium heat.
- In a large bowl, combine the beef mince, diced onion, and egg. Mix well with your hands until just combined.
- Divide the mixture into four equal parts and shape each part into a ball. Flatten each ball slightly into a patty about 3cm thick.
- Place the patties on a plate, cover with cling film and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to firm up.
- Heat a little vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat. Brush one side of each burger with oil.
- Cook the burgers, oil-side down, for 5 minutes or until lightly charred. Don't move them around.
- Flip the burgers over and cook for an additional 5 minutes, until cooked to your desired level of doneness.
- Meanwhile, toast the burger buns on the barbecue.
- Assemble the burgers with your choice of toppings.
